What Gas Work Covers

Cooktops and ovens fitted, moved or swapped, BBQ points and pool heaters connected, gas hot water systems hooked up, and leaks traced and repaired. Every job finishes with a pressure test, because a line that holds on the gauge is a line you can trust.

Where Does a Gas Smell Come From?

A gas smell in an older cottage traces back to one of three places:

Appliance connections

A flexi hose or bayonet fitting from the early-2000s refresh can weep at the join once its braiding perishes.

Old pipe runs

Joints shifted by reactive clay show up as a smell before anything worse, and the detector tells us which run it is.

The meter side

A smell strongest at the meter itself is the gas network's to fix, not ours.

From Ringing to a Tested Line

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 3469 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

The line is isolated, checked with the gas detector, and the repair or install is done to code, then pressure-tested before the gas returns.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

What Goes Into a Gas Quote?

The figure turns on:

  • Access to the line A bayonet point on an open wall is quick; a pipe run under a slab extension adds hours the easy jobs do not.
  • What is already there Extending an existing run costs less than bringing gas to a house that has never had it.
  • When the visit happens A gas job booked for a weekday costs less than one after hours, and you hear the gap when you book.

Gas Work and the Housing Stock

Older kitchens, newer appliances

Interwar weatherboard cottages and postwar fibro homes make up much of Kahibah, alongside the brick veneer built after the school moved in 1954. In the older houses, a gas cooktop or oven can mean running a new line from the meter rather than connecting to a point that is already there.

Cool nights in a wooded valley

After sunset this sheltered valley turns colder than the suburbs by the sea, and a gas heater or gas hot water unit working hard through winter needs every connection sound.

The ground moves the pipes

Reactive clay over shale expands and contracts between the wet and dry months, which strains buried gas joints, and a joint that has shifted a little can weep before it fails. A detector run finds it without pulling the kitchen apart.

When we're not the right call

a smell at the meter or on the street side of it goes to the gas network's emergency line, since their crew owns that pipe. A heater circuit that needs new wiring alongside the pipe is a licensed electrician's half of the job, and the quote names whose work that is.

Gas Fitting Questions From This Run

Do I need a licensed gas fitter to swap a cooktop?

Yes. Any work on a gas line, even a like-for-like cooktop change or moving a BBQ point, needs a licensed gas fitter and a pressure test before the supply is turned back on. It is not DIY work, and the certificate matters if you ever sell the house.

How often should a gas heater or cooktop be serviced?

A yearly service suits gas heaters, and cooktops and ovens deserve a check whenever the flame colour changes or the igniter misbehaves. A lazy, yellow-tipped flame is worth a booking, because a clean burn is blue.

Can you convert an old electric hot water unit to gas?

We can, if gas reaches the spot where the tank sits. The older cottages here that still run original steel water services may need that supply renewed at the same time, so the quote covers both the gas run and any pipe work the old service needs.

Do you do gas work outside Kahibah itself?

Yes. The gas run covers Whitebridge, Highfields, Charlestown and Adamstown Heights alongside Kahibah, on the same bookings and the same fixed-price terms. Ring and tell us the street and the job, and the visit gets planned from there.
